Through a virtual collaboration, Hyang Chu in Vietnam, Bonnie Kim in Hawaii, and Namu Reyoung in Korea explore memories from water that entangle different moments and places. This multimedia piece interweaves stories and sounds from their places of origin. Shadow performance, video projection, objects, movement, and music exquisitely blended into this collaboration.

Profile Artist

Ha is a creative collective of three artists from different countries. Ha in Hawaiian means breath. It is an essential element for three artists in their creative works. Also, their places of residence start with Ha (Hawaii, Hanoi, and Hanguk (South Korea)). Despite their diverse backgrounds, they share nature as one of the main inspirations for their works.

Bonnie Kim is a puppeteer and teaching artist living on the Island of Hawaii. Her passion for the world of puppetry has led her to study and create various puppet/wayang works. Her puppetry work has been showcased in Hawaii, mainland USA, Germany, Spain, Italy, Norway, Czech Republic, Korea, Cambodia, Thailand, and Indonesia. She has also done many collaborative multidisciplinary projects with other artists in countless places. As a teaching artist, Bonnie has taught drama, puppetry, masks, creative movement, and the art of recycling to children and adults in various arts organizations and schools. She is currently a teaching artist at the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts for Artists in the Schools Program.

Nam-Reyoung Kim is a haegeum (a traditional Korean string instrument) player. She won first place in the Traditional Korean Music Award at the Ji Young Hee Traditional Music Competition in 2015. She is the founder and director of NAMU:REYOUNG, a not-for-profit arts group in Korea that focuses on producing traditional Korean music & art events and programs. The group seeks to conceive projects that cross the boundaries of traditional performing arts and explore multidisciplinary collaborations.

Hyang Chu is a puppeteer, storyteller, healer, and interior designer based in Vietnam. She is well-versed in numerous fields, such as design, illustration, experimental installation art, and performance. She also does many puppetry-based community art projects that take inspiration from nature, community, culture, dance, and motion. She dives into the art of puppetry to share stories and practices the inclusive art of connecting various layers of emotions to heal herself and connect with people.
